Favorite Running Shoes Linkup

button

I first began running last August. I was training for the Komen 5K that was in October. I had some running shoes that I used as my everyday tennis shoes so I thought they would be fine to run in... WRONG! My feet HURT after running in them. So, I did a little research and everything I read said to go have your technique evaluated at a specialized running store and have them recommend some shoes for you to try. I went to a small local running shop and they were so helpful. They watched me run and walk, measured my feet, etc. Turns out, I am a "moderate overpronator." I was also wearing the wrong size. Even though I wear an 8.5 in every other shoe, I was a 9 in my running shoes. The guy recommended several different brands for me to try. I ultimately ended up with these:

Asics GT-2170
The biggest hurdle for me to get over was not shopping based on color. The sales guy said that this was the biggest issue for women. They end up going for the "cuter" ones instead of the ones that fit their needs best (what? not us!). I normally would not have picked these but my choice for this brand were these or purple (gag). So, I ended up with these! I LOVE them! I think the main point is that everyone is different. I would HIGHLY recommend talking to someone who knows about running and not just trying to figure it out on your own.

Also, I couldn't find these on the Asics website but I did find them on sale at Zappos {HERE}!

  1. I used to run 3 -4 times a week, on the greenways, my only reccomendation is if you looove those shoes buy another pair or two now. When you need new ones they often won't make the same ones. Which is super frustrating. Cause then you have to try to find a new one all over again. Its like a bad break up. Lol

  2. Trying to comment...lets hope it works this time ;) I used to run 3-4 times a week on the greenways. I lived 2 blocks away so it was beyond convienent. Anyway my advice on shoes are if you love that pair buy an extra now. They often change them yearly and you have to try to find that perfect fit again..not my favorite thing to do, especially if you have just blown out your best ones.

  3. So true, womens want cute shoes. It's hard to get away from that, but luckily I think more running shoe brands are starting to realize that too and make some cuter ones!

  4. I am totally guilty of picking running shoes based on looks and not what I actually need. Which is probably why I am not running right now because my shoes hurt my feet after about 10 minutes. Maybe I need to put on my big girl panties and try listening to the experts?

  5. I agree - spend the money - get fitted - it makes a world of difference. I am so into the "cute pair" BUT had to break that mold to find a pair that actually feel good:) Thanks for linking up.

  7. It's definately worth the money to get fitted and find the right shoe! Step one! I do the cute pair thing too, but I've got the store calling me when new colors of my favorite come in! What's up holla! And all I had to do was ask!

  8. I have a similar pair of Asics! I made the same mistake in the beginning, running in my regular workout shoes - I had the worst shin splints for about 5 weeks before I finally caved in and bought a new pair of running shoes. I totally agree with you on how we shop for "cuteness" in shoes and needing to move past that - but of course, every pair that is right for my foot are usually the fugly ones. LOL oh well!! Thanks for linking up!

  10. I need to get new shoes but I'm poor lol. I'm training for the 500 Festival Mini Marathon in Indy so I know I need new shoes that fit well, but I probably need two pair. A pair for training and a pair closer to race day. Guess it's all part of the price to be fit. Plus the "old" pair can be used for all the mud races I love to do during the summer.

We need to find a race to do together :)... or at least run in DC in a few weeks!

  11. I need to get a new pair of well fitted running shoes. They're just so expensive! I actually need two pair as I'm scheduled to run the 500 Festival Mini Marathon with the Indy 500 in May. I'll need a pair to train in and another pair closer to race day. I guess it's the price to pay for getting healthy. Plus, I could use the "old" pair during all the mud races I love doing during the summer.
You should join me for one... or at least run with me in DC :)!
