Work in Progress

Heller Thursday! My Zumba license class is DAY AFTER TOMORROW! I am so excited. I never in a million years thought I would be doing this.

About a week after this picture was taken I began doing Zumba in my living room with the Wii.
Let me tell you, it was TERRIBLE. I could barely get through a 20 minute session without stopping. I felt disgusting. All 200+ pound of me jiggling and wiggling through the routines. I remember having to wear pants even though it made me sweat like a whore in church. I couldn't wear shorts because they rode up and my thighs rubbed together so bad that they were raw. I wouldn't let ANYONE see me doing my Zumba routines. Not even my husband (fiance at the time). I had been a dancer/cheerleader my whole life until college. I had the skills to do this but because of my body I couldn't physically do it. Zumba is one of the main reasons I lost my first 40 pounds two years ago. Of course I changed my eating but Zumba was more than an exercise program for me. I had finally found an exercise program I LIKED. After I had lost several pounds I got up the courage to try out some live classes with my sister. They were awesome. I was so scared that I was going to be the white chubby girl swaying out of tune while a bunch of hot Latin babes danced circles around me. I was completely WRONG. I fit in. Everyone was there for the same reason. No one was a professional dancer. Hell, no one was even Latin. My fears were eased as soon as the first routine began. Just to be clear, I am not being paid by Zumba to say any of this. I am just a huge believer that it works.

I have gained about 10 lbs. back since these photos were taken. However, these photos were after I had been doing Zumba and eating healthy for about a year.

I still have a long way to go. My muscles are not as toned as they need to be and my body fat is too high. I am a work in progress.

Now, two years later I am going to become a Zumba Instructor. I am going to be able to lead other people through the exercise program that changed my life. Of course I am nervous about Saturday (especially after reading posts about people who could not walk after the course because their legs were cramping so badly). However, I know I can do it.

Also, I have met another Weight Watchers gal in the blogosphere! She is Lex over at Life by Lex.

  7. This is SO awesome, Sarah! I have been reading through your past posts at your journey and it has been very inspiring. I had a baby a year ago and I'm striving to live a healthier lifestyle to keep the pregnancy weight off so I commend you for doing it prior to starting a family as I'm sure it'll make it so much easier.

I can't wait to hear how your Zumba license class went!
