It was December 2010 and my family and I had traveled to Texas to visit my family like we do every year. I had not stepped on a scale in several months so for some strange reason I decided to weigh myself on the bathroom scale at my Mammaw's house. That moment began this journey I have been on for almost 2 years. My weight had never been as high as it was in that moment as I stared at the scale in disbelief with hot tears welling up in my eyes. When I got back home from Texas, there was an even more daunting task at hand. I had to try on the wedding dress I had purchased 4 months ago. When I bought the dress it was a size too big so it could be custom altered to my body. I still had a glimmer of hope that maybe my body hadn't changed
that much. Even with the laws of physics stacked against me, I prayed that dress would still zip... so, I stepped into the dress... pulled it up... and my mom couldn't even get the zipper to budge. It wasn't just a little too tight... it straight up did not fit... at all. With my wedding in 6 months I had to make a decision:
1. Hope the nice alteration lady at David's Bridal could magically expand my dress
2. Buy a new dress (this option was off the table as my mother repeatedly told me she was not paying for another dress)
3. Lose enough weight to squeeze my big butt into the dress
Well, through process of elimination I chose number 3. I made a doctor's appointment and set calorie budget and exercise goals. I knew I would have to be super intense in order to lose this much weight in less than 6 months. So, I limited myself to about 1600 calories per day and did Zumba for 20 min-60 min per day. The first 20 pounds came off fairly quickly. At 185 lbs. I was feeling much better and my dress zipped! Four weeks before my wedding I had lost another 10 lbs. and a TON of inches. I had to have my dress taken in... TWICE!!!
I did not restrict myself during our honeymoon... that would have been terrible... especially at an all-inclusive resort! By Christmas 2011 I was down to about 162 lbs. Since then, I have been slipping on my calorie budget and my exercise. I am back up to
172 169 165 lbs. I have realized that this journey is going to take a long time because I am not interested in losing weight quickly just to turn around and gain it all back. I want to make permanent changes in my life.
My
main goal right now is to get down to my ideal size before Adam and I start a family. I know that it will be very tough to lose my pregnancy weight and so I want to establish a healthy lifestyle and healthy weight first.
All throughout my journey I have drawn inspiration from God. The Bible shares so much with us about our bodies and our physical health. Visit my
Inspiration tab for inspiring verses, books, and devotions I have used during the past two years. I am excited to continue on my journey and I hope to inspire others to embark on their own quest for physical and spiritual transformation.

I gained 15 pounds before my wedding (but I didn't lose it - I'm so thankful for lace up dresses!) and I've added on another 5 pounds since. I'm excited to read about your journey as I'm going through mine just now. :)
